Shifts in the location of  Desert  Threshold zones between years representing extreme annual rainfall conditions were inferred from mapping vegetation cover (in 5% Vegetation Cover grades)  across the West to East transect in 1991 (a year with record low precipitation) and 1992 (a year with record high precipitation).
